Your response must paraphrase the article. Do not copy and paste information. Write a blog response about your article, being sure to include the following points:
* Where and when did the event occur?
* Who was involved?
* What happened? Summarize the events.
* Why did it happen?
* How did it affect people?
* What can we learn about life from the event? and/or How does the event show insight into the human condition?
* Why is it important to be aware of national/global events?
* Include a link to the article you read.

Please answer in 150-250 words. Your response is due no later than 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2015. You will lose points if your response is under 150 words, if it is late, and/or if it does not reflect your own ideas.

  1. A few days ago, there was a fatal crash that killed everyone on board, no survivors. The crashed killed one hundred and fifty to be exact. The plane that crashed was the Germanwings Flight 9525. The reports say that the crashed happened because of the co-pilot, twenty seven year old Andreas Lubitz. They said he might have set the trajectory into the French Alps. Reports say the found antidepressants in Andreas’ apartment. Apparently he was suffering from mental issues. It says he went for treatment on his vision too, which could also be a possible reason for the crash. Searching through his apartment for ninety minutes, investigators left his apartment with boxes of evidence to hopefully find out just why he did it. The real questions on everyone's mind however is, why would Andreas want to end the life the many that were on the plane? What happened in the cockpits in the final seconds? And how in the world did he pass his medical exam for flying if he had vision problem and psychological problems?

    1. Such a tragedy. Events like this make people seriously question how safe they are in any given situation. You feel like you should be able to trust a pilot to get you safely to your destination... Now there will probably be all kinds of new rules and restrictions. But we all have to know no matter how many rules and restrictions there are, people will find ways around them. Scary. Good reporting.

  2. Early on Sunday morning, an Air Canada Jet had a rough landing at Halifax Airport. The jet was 1,100 feet short of the runway when it touched down. It hit an antenna which was the main power source of the airport. When it hit the antenna of the airport all the power was shut down. When the plane touched down it lost the landing gear, and skidded on it’s belly for about 1,100 feet before coming to a stop. Reporters don’t know really what happened to cause the crash. Air Canada Flight 624 left Toronto late Saturday for Halifax. Air Canada said the passenger list indicates the plane had 133 passengers and five crew members on board. 25 people and the 2 pilots were taken to the hospital for minor injuries caused. All but one person was released from the hospital Sunday afternoon. Klaus Goersch, the CEO and executive vice president of Air Canada was questioned about the weather when the plane landed. Georsch said that the weather was fine so he does not know what would have made it crash. “Heavy snow was reported at the time of the landing, but Peter Spurway, an airport spokesman, said it was unclear if it had played a role in the accident.”
A CBC reporter named Chris Ensing tweeted that the power was out at HFX airport and it was pitch black with exit lights on. Later he tweeted the power was back on though.

  3. My blog this week is about a van crash. In rural southwest Florida, a church van filled with eighteen students, crashed. Leaving eight dead, and ten injured. All ten passengers were taken to four different hospitals with minor to major injuries. The church van from Fort Pierce ran a stop sign, crossed all lanes of U.S. 27 and landed in a canal at 12:30 AM Monday in Glades County. No one knows why the van crashed, showing that there was no fog that night. This crash affected many people, especially the Church family. I think one thing that I learned from this article would be that life is fragile, and anything can happen within the blink of an eye. It is very important that people today pay attention to current events, so we are able to be aware of anything and/or be ready for anything that could happen.

  4. This event occurred in Bangladesh.
    Washiqur Rahman Babu
A man was killed by three people, who then fled the scene. The police recovered three meat cleavers. The police captured the suspects who were students at a separate islamic school.
Washiqur Rahman Babu was killed because of the type of blog he posted, he was known for writing blogs that spoke out against religious extremism.
This affected people because it shows how what you believe in can hurt you, but you shouldn’t be killed for it.
We can learn how to just all get along and not judge others for what they believe in. This shows the insight into the human condition by showing how cruel other people can be.
It is important to be aware of national and global events because you always need to know what is going on in the world around you.

  6. The event occurred on March 24 around 10 in the morning, from Barcelona.
The people involved in this tragic incident was the co-pilot (Andreas Lubitz) and
the 149 people on board. What happened was that Germanwings flight 9525 crashed into the French Alps Tuesday morning. Investigators have really focused on the co-pilot Andres Lubitz, a French prosecutor had said that Lubitz had locked the pilot out of the cockpit and right after crashed the plane. News reporters think that Lubitz might have been suffering from mental health problems. Investigators also found Antidepressants at Lubitz apartment in Dusseldorf, Germany. Lubitz had recently seen his doctor for vision problems since it was threatening his career. Investigators are still interviewing Lubitz relatives, co-workers, and friends.According to the news reporters Lubitz had been suffering from an illness that he was hiding from his employer and had been stated that he was unfit to work by his doctor. Authorities say that they found torn up medical leave notes, including the day of the crash. Germanwings says that they never received a sick note from Lubitz. All the people on board lost their lives, families are devastated. Search teams have gone out to the place of the incident to find any survivors. People are also wondering what led Lubitz to crash the plane. We learn that people are crazy and don’t care about doing any type of damage to the world, they think this world is theirs and that no one is important to them. Its important to be updated about global events because that’s the only way we’ll know what is happening around us or what coming up.

  7. Freedom of Speech is very limited in many third world countries. March 30th, 2015, in Bangladesh, a blogger who criticized extremist Islam was hacked to death by a series of religious students. He has been the second blogger to die in the capital of Dhaka this year. The fact that a simple blogger can't display their opinion over fear of death is a problem. The rise of violent Islamic has not gone unnoticed by the world, yet many crimes against humanity are committed by constantly. Its important that everyone on this planet, including those not even directly involved; should realize that this is going on. Many of my peers are oblivious to the world outsides their own country. No human on this earth should have to censor their thoughts and beliefs over fear of death/punishment. Hopefully in the near future, all countries will have true freedom of speech.

    1. I agree that freedom of speech is important, but we must also be careful because we know that others may disagree with us. And that is find and normal, but in cases like this voicing one's opinion is a risk.

  8. LaGrue, 19, a Bowie State student who was trained to be a social worker, was killed early Friday morning march 20th in a horrific car crash along the BW Parkway in Cheverly.
Family members say shortly before 3:00 a.m., LaGrue was on a night out with a group of friends when a group of armed men approached. They believe LaGrue was escaping in a car when a vehicle rear-ended him, pushing the car off the road before it burst into flames.
March 21st LaGrue was remembered as a loving mentor and a good friend. "He was such a loving spirit. I know from family he's well loved, our little cousins look up to him as a hero, and apparently he's a hero to everybody out here too," said Amaiyah Holley, LaGrue's cousin.
"His passion was social work and that was his major. He always wanted to help youth that were in trouble," said Rhonda Neal, a family friend.
Family members said they're grateful for investigators looking into the case. Some people in the family believe two suspects have been caught, but ABC-7 has not confirmed that with authorities, but once new information is obtained, updates will be provided on this story. Enjoy life while you can, because you never know when it’s your time. Be aware of your surroundings.

  9. On March 29, Riders on a New York roller coaster took the long way down Sunday after Coney Island's historic Cyclone got stuck in its track on opening day.
No one was injured got injured, but it was announced as an isolated mechanical issue. Each of the passengers were helped down by the park's operations team one by one, and the ride was closed the rest of the day for repairs. Hoffman said "Safety is the number one priority for our guests here at Luna Park, Nobody was injured, and those on the ride were safely evacuated and will be able to come ride again for free when it is open again." pictures and videos were shared on social media of the people slowly walking down the 88-year-old wooden roller coaster. One of the passengers told a reporter, "That thing was the scariest thing I ever did. The bricks, walking down, looked like it was going to break when you stepped on it." A man by the name of Steven Hernandez was waiting in line when the coaster got stuck. He told the reporter that he shows up for opening day at Luna Park every year, and he heads straight for the Cyclone to be one of the first 100 people who get to ride for free. "People were trying to figure out why the Cyclone got stuck at the top," he said. "I go there every year, and its never happened before." He and others watched the coaster, taking pictures and videos on their phones, as the passengers climbed down stairs back to safety. The Cyclone first opened on June 26, 1927, during Coney Island's heyday as one of country's largest recreation areas. It had more than 2,640 feet of track with 12 drops and 27 elevation changes. It was an official New York City Landmark since July 12, 1988, and was listed in the New York State Register of Historic Places on June 31, 1991. Hernandez and the other passengers received a free ticket for the next ride after the park operators closed the ride for repairs. He told the reporter, "I've been riding that ride since I was 14. I love it, and this will definitely not stop me from coming back.

  10. My event occurred in Fort Meade, Maryland
On Monday March 30th two people attempted to ram into the main gate in front of the National Security Agency at Fort Meade in Maryland. An NSA police officer shot one of the perpetrators and seriously injured the other. The incident happened near to one of the gates but was not near any of the main buildings. Both of the people involved in the incident were males. This is the second security occurrence involving the NSA. Officers stopped a man named Hong Young who was 35 years old and lives in Beltsville, Maryland, and matched his vehicle to a description authorities' saw in the surveillance footage near some of the other shootings. There was a gun in the car that matched evidence found at the shootings which led to Young’s arrest. Police said there seemed to be no signs of terrorism in the case and no motive has been determined. It is important to know about global events to know about what is going on in the world around us.

  11. At Northeastern University in Boston, Dr. Thomas Webster and his team are developing nanoparticles to fight cancer and ebola. Attaching gold nanoparticles to cancer cells, they could use an infrared light to heat the particles; which would kill the cancer cells (leaving the healthy cells unharmed). They developed this technology to simply stop cancer and ebola- it’s what we all want, right? People surrounding the project are getting excited, as it improves by the day. It could change the medical field dramatically. We can learn that with enough hard work, the unthinkable can be done. It a wonderful dive in the human body and what we can do with it. It’s important to know of global events because they’re usually a big deal. You can support whatever is going on or you can at least be aware. Being aware of global events makes you know what’s going on in the world so that you know what’s going on in case there’s an emergency. http://www.cnn.com/2015/03/25/tech/webster-nanoparticles-cancer-mci/index.html

  12. A astronaut named Scott Kelly plans to make history by spending 342 days in space. Michael Lopez-Alegria holds the record of the longest mission while being abroad a space station, but Kelly is hoping to break that record. With him doing this, it will be the longest time any U.S. astronaut has spent in space. He left Earth Friday on a Russian Soyuz rocket with two other astronauts named Mikhail Kornienko and Gennady Padalka. Mikhail will also spend a year with Kelly but Padalka will be leaving in six months. He plans to study how the body reacts to long periods of time in space. While Scott is in space, scientists will be performing the same tests done on Scott on Mark Kelly, his twin brother. Scott is going to space to study how the body reacts in space so scientists can plan trips to Mars and farther into space to explore. This event is very important because a lot of information will come out of this mission. With this mission, humans may be able to travel farther into space.

  13. It has been stated that many murder cases are ignored or go unsolved. The homicide ‘clearance rate’ has went down over 50 years. That’s not good even though it may sound good. Clearance rates are basically cases that end with an arrest, or in which a culprit is otherwise identified without the possibility of arrest — if the suspect has died, for example. At least 200,000 murders have been unsolved since the 1960s. Delicia Turner’s husband was murdered in 2009 while he was in Boston. He was with a friend that was killed also. His murder case went unsolved with the other 199,999 unsolved murder cases. Delicia stated that it’s like the boogeyman. She doesn’t know if she has walked by the person, she doesn’t know if the person knows her or anything. The police are basically just trying to prevent crimes instead of trying to solve the crimes that are happening.

  14. The event occurred in the U.S. It involves Iran. Iran is continuing to go past the deadline to get rid of the nukes that they have so that we don't have to worry about having a nuclear attack or terrorism attack. Its happening because Iran won't get rid of the nukes or massive bombs that they have. The things we can learn about in life is that because of events or stories like this we will probably never have world peace. Because somebody or someone out there will always have to bring trouble to get their name known. Its important to know about the global events or the world events that are happening now because it opens our eyes to what is happening in the world around us because all of us might not know what is happening that could affect us in life because if you don't know about the global events you could get a bomb dropped on you and you weren't ready because you haven't been watching the news. 15. This event happened on March 24 in the French Alps. Andreas Lubitz was a 27 year old German pilot who suffered episodes of severe depression during his flight training. He had been excused by doctors for an unspecified illness on the day that the plane had crashed. He appears to have hidden this fact from the airlines, according to the prosecutors. This crash killed 149 others on board the plane with the pilot. Dirk FIscher, a German lawmaker, who is also a transport expert for Angela Merkel’s CDU party, is making is mandatory for airlines to have access to the medical records for all pilots to try and prevent this from happening again. This affected people because it could have been possibly prevented if the airlines would have been more involved with their pilots medical history before putting them in the air with everyone else’s lives. We can learn that the airlines that people all around the world fly on daily do not do good in depth checks on our pilots. It’s important to be aware of global events because it shines light on things that could possibly happen where we live.

  16. The event I read about happened in Southern Carolina on Tuesday March 31; When Singer/Songwriter Joni Mitchell was hospitalized after being found unconscious in her home. Paramedics from the L.A. fire department was called to her home on the report of a medical emergency. There wasn’t a specific reason as to why she fell unconscious but according to her website she is in the hospital and she is doing okay. Joni’s fans were very worried about her and decided to sing a song and light a candle as a way to send good wishes to her. From this event we can learn that life can change drastically in any second. You could be having a great time one moment and be dead or hospitalized the next. This event shows insight on human conditions, because everyone probably thought she was fine because of the way she looked but she wasn’t. Sometimes you can’t look at a person and say “oh she/he is very healthy” because they might not be. I think it important for us to know about the national events because it keeps us updated on the things that are happening around us.

An Iranian Y-12 aircraft flew 50 yards away from an U.S MH-60R Navy helicopter piloted by Carl Vinson, who was on a routine patrol. The event has troubled U.S military officials because the event could have caused a serious incident. The U.S administration is considering a protest against Iran. This event happened on Tuesday near the Persian Gulf. It is not known why this event happened, but officials think that it is just an act of buffoonery. This event has not really affected people because no one was injured. We can learn about life from this event by being serious when you are doing something important. It is important to be aware of national events because it could affect you and you wouldn’t know the event happened. You should also be aware of national events because the event could be near where you live.

Except for the major water usage places like factories and farms that actually need it. The reason for this drought was because of the usage a water in California is out the roof and they haven’t had a lot of rain the past months. This affected people by how much water the use everyday and changed their water habits. We can learn from this event by not using as much water everyday when you know that you are close to a drought from not a lot of rain. Sometime before sunrise on April 1st, 2015 an oil platform in the Gulf of mexico exploded and killed four people. The rig exploded and hundreds of workers were affected immediately. Over three hundred workers were evacuated and 4 of the workers were killed. Several others were injured. Currently eight fireboats off the coast are trying to fight the blaze. A mexican state run oil company named Permex has dealt with two other deadly explosions like this before. The two were the one in 2013 that killed thirty seven people, and the one in 2012 that killed twenty six people. Some people who survived say they had to jump into the ocean to survive the explosion. Details are still coming forward seing this is so recent. It is important to be aware of events like this because it pollutes the waters. Also it could endanger wildlife and cause problems in the time to come.

Governor Jerry Brown and Frank Gehrke, the chief of California Cooperative Snow Surveys Program for the Department of Water Resources, together decided that due to the lack of water, there will be restrictions to how much water one person can get. The reason is the Sierra Nevada snowpack, in which Californians need for water in the heat of summer, was a record low. Someone commented to CNN “So much for our lawns.” The California Drought will require 11 trillion gallons of water; the same amount would take 170 days of water flowing over Niagara Falls. Al-Shabaab claims to be responsible for this attack in having a lack of security in the country. After the assault the Kenyan citizens are worried about their government’s ability. The name of the suspects are currently known as of so far what they found only one of them. So far what has happen mean that there could be a group of people that’s making its move with terror. This is very important because this means that there could be a terrorist that can possibly attack the U.S. later on causing the rest of the world to be on their guards. I’m sure that there will be much more information about this attack later but for now there’s still a case that is needed to be found.

  22. In Miami florida a man named Chad bernstein created a program to help many kids learn an instrument and stay off the streets. When chad was a little kid he remembers how he didn’t fit in at all and how he looked for something that he belonged too. When he played music it gave him a sense of identity. So now in the future he has created this program to help kids and kinda give them a identity too. The people who help the kids are not referred to as teachers, nor parents, but somebody the kid can really relate to and tell their problems to. Also they provide tutoring and social services to make sure that your are not stress. This shows a lot on human condition because it shows that many people in the world try to help others that who may not have it so lucky. 23. A man named Feiden Santana recorded a South Carolina policeman shoot a fleeing unarmed man. Walter Scott and  officer slager were on the ground fighting. When Feiden Santana was on his way to work he saw the two men fighting. When he went to see what was going he saw officer Slager tazing Scott. When Feiden Santana starts recording Scott starts to run away unarmed and officer Slager giving no warning not yelling stop, fires eight shots. After Scott is down officer Slager walks over and handcuffs him and does not perform any first aid. Slager then walks back over to where him and Scott were fighting and picks up what looks like the  tazer and goes back over to scott and drops it. According to the biopsy report Scott was shot four times Scotts family was devastated as any family would be. I think this event really sheds light on the way people treat each other. It's not just cops. But when someone in there position does something like this it definitely frightens the people; because police officers are suppose to help people, and protect them not gun them down. Sometimes people take unnecessary measures for a small problem.

These police, as you said, should be making sure people are safe and acting legally. I can't believe police are continuing to use excessive force like this when they are under such national scrutiny. I'm afraid that it won't stop with the riots in Baltimore... The people of our country need to learn to live in peace, but with all the history of racism it will be hard to change.

  24. This event occured in Beijing, China on Monday April 11, 2015
Wei Tingting, Wang Man and Zheng Churan were involved in this event.
These three Chinese women activists Wei Tingting, Wang Man and Zheng Churan were released by chinese authorities.
They were released because of the United States urging China to release them and also because of them being majorly criticized, They were detained because of speaking out against sexual harrasment in china.
This caused people to protest through the twitter hashtag, “#FreeTheFive” which referred to freeing all five of the women activists instead of just the three.
We can learn from this event that we should always speak out against what’s wrong and this shows how humans aren’t all that bad and some do protest for the right things.

  27. This week in philadelphia a train ran off the tracks because it was speeding. 8 people dead and over 200 injured. The train was running late so the engineer made the train go over 106 miles per hour while turning. The speed limit for the train was 60 miles per hour. They tried to pull the brakes but because they pulled them so quickly and not slowly it helped the train to flip over the tracks. When the train ran off they realized the train had only slowed down to 103 miles per hour. I think the engineer named Brandon Bostian wanted to killed the people on the train. Why would he have made the train go 106? That’s ridiculous, the speed limit was 60! What was this man thinking? If I saw him and was able to talk to him that would be the question I would ask him. This man killed 8 innocent people who had families waiting for them to get home. Over 200 people were injured, I just don’t understand why somebody would want to do this.
