ReplyDeleteA stereotype is the things expected by people because of their gender, race or any other thing that puts someone in a specific group. These affect the way people are looked at because sometimes the good in people is missed because of their stereotype. Stereotypes exist because people see x amount of whatever stereotype and assume everyone of that group is like that. The continue to get passed on because parents teach them to their kids. Ex: Blacks and white may in some cases still not get along because people from these times are passing down stereotypes about the other.
ReplyDeleteIn some cases, these do affect the way people view, behave, and see themselves. They may think they are not good enough, or any amount of things due to being out down. But not all stereotypes are negative. Sometimes people think less of themselves because so much is expected from them. We as a nation or even the world, should try to ignore any stereotype put in front of us. We too often hear a stereotype and then carry it with us. Everyone needs to ignore these and see everyone as equal.
A stereotypical person is one who catergorizes groups of people. People that do not understand the background of certain types of people, put them in classifications, thinking that everyone in that classification is the same. Usually, stereotype’s base their knowledge off of what the descent of another origin did. I believe people learn their stereotypical ways from the parents or guardians. They teach us basics; right from wrong, clean from dirty, nice from mean. People don't just depend on what is given to them to form beliefs, but carefully collect some of the certain clues that proves our beliefs and ideas true. We can not rid ourselves of stereotypes. In our everyday life, everyone is judging everyone in one way or another. It is important that we all try and change the stereotypical ways. Some people can not be theirselves due to always being judged, so why live in a world of fake people?
ReplyDeleteWhat is a stereotype? Well a stereotype is an idea some person has about a certain group or nationality. Now, its mostly the minorities who are exposed to stereotyping, at least where I live. I know in some other places its different, but I’m talking about where I live. Stereotypes give people a predetermined attitude against a certain group of people. Some good, some bad. Why do stereotypes exist? I don’t know, but I feel like they hurt today’s society. They’re making America more ignorant everyday. If someone says something stereotypical to you or about you, just laugh it off, shrug it off, or just ignore it. I want to reduce all the negative stereotypes, I really do, but in my opinion I don’t think stereotypes will ever go away. They will still be here even after our children, and even their children’s children. Unless of course we all end up being fused to create one race of people which I think is highly unlikely
ReplyDeleteA stereotype is a common, untrue preconceived notion of a particular group of people. Stereotypes affect the way everyone lives because people and society like to be stupid and judge an individual based on another's actions. Stereotypes exist because it is often times an ignorance passed on through family's and friends in most cases. This child that is taught this stereotype at a young age will hold these beliefs and then teach their kids the exact same thing and this is where the ugly cycle begins. Stereotypes 100% affect the way people live. How are you ever supposed to be yourself or express your true beliefs if you will already be judged and stereotyped based on something you can't control? You can't. You will be limited to what you can truly do all because of a false preconceived notion. We reduce the negative effects of stereotypes by teaching our youth how to properly treat someone; Based on who that person is, and nothing else. We end the cycle of stereotyping.

ReplyDeleteStereotype is a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. People experience it everyday and the reason for this is because we have a lot of identities like our gender, our race, and even our age. In each one of these identities is where negative stereotype exists. Who creates stereotypes? Everyone does, we learn them from our parents, friends, people around us, but mostly from the media. Another way stereotype is created is by people who like to categorize the world they have the need to, and the reason they do this is because they feel better about themselves and it makes them feel that they’re better than anyone, without thinking that they could be hurting people’s feelings emotionally and physically.Stereotypes are passed down between people by having just one person start it and then telling it to another and that other person tells it to another and another and another until its all over the world. I do and don’t think stereotype affects people because a person can choose to listen to what people say they don’t have to hear what others think about them but they choose to. Like, a person could have told another person that you are bad tempered and under the effect of that stereotype you will most likely ignore all of their calm moments and not even notice when they are actually having a bad temper. Local environment is something anyone can influence, often no one one really has thought about it, there could be resistance if changes are made then things will improve for that location.
ReplyDeleteA stereotype is a thought or feeling you have towards someone or a group of people that may or may not be true. Stereotypes can make other people think a group or person is one way when in reality, the group or person is nothing like that. Stereotypes exist because people are cruel and even if you dont want to admit it, we all judge people before we get to actually know the person. Everyone creates stereotypes, we all do it. Stereotypes are passed down between people by your race, religion, the way you look, hair color, etc. Stereotypes definitely affect the way people view and interact with anyone that has been put under that particular stereotype. An example of this would be the Holocaust, the Jewish people were treated horribly and this probably made them feel that they were useless. We can try to reduce the negative stereotypes by not judging people before we get to know them. Just because of your race or religion doesn’t mean you’re a bad person.
ReplyDeleteA stereotype(according to dictionary.com) is a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. Stereotypes exist to me because it’s something seen before and is “typical”, for example the “typical white girl” you think of starbucks and uggs with her hair in a bun and possibly sweatpants. Stereotypes that are “typical” people say you can call it, also like the “country boy” you might see the camo and boots and jeans with a hat; that is just conceived off of images we have seen before from the past so we put it into today and think it is still okay. I mean everyone has those days where you wear the sweatpants and uggs, or some cowboy boots and jeans but that doesn’t make you a “typical” type of person.
ReplyDeleteStereotypes to me are passed down like I said through pictures or things we have heard before so nothing changes. Everyone thinks because that is what they have heard or seen makes them that type. It doesn’t. it’s just that you are who you are and if people want to stereotype you then let them, but you are the person you are like I said and were raised on standards or raised in that way.
I think some people do care that they are called this but in the same way, the people I know and have seen seem to not care. They are who they are and they are proud of it. I mean to me, if it floats your boat, sail on. On the other hand some do care because they think because they are “labeled” they have to change or that’s not okay and think that the people are making fun of them because they got “labeled”. It’s okay to be different and if you are “labeled” don’t think about it, just stay doing what you are doing :) .
I think that if we just look at the person as a whole and not by what they wear, or how they talk, etc. then that can reduce the stereotypical judging in this community. I don’t really judge what they look like or where they come from, I look at them as a person and how they act, or how they act to me. Most of the time I get to know them and where they did come from to maybe know why they act the way they do or do the things they do, and it’s okay. So I think if we just get to know someone before we judge or are quick to judge then it could help reduce that.
ReplyDeleteA stereotype is an exaggerated belief, image or distorted truth about a person or group; a generalization that allows for little or no individual differences or social variation. Stereotypes are based on images in mass media, or reputations passed on by parents, peers and other members of society. Stereotypes can be positive or negative. One reason why people stereotype is that it is too difficult to take in all of the complexities of other people as individuals. Even though stereotyping is inexact, it is an efficient way to mentally organize large blocks of information. Categorization is an essential human capability because it enables us to simplify, predict, and organize our world. Once one has sorted and organized everyone into tidy categories, there is a human tendency to avoid processing new or unexpected information about each individual. Assigning general group characteristics to members of that group saves time and satisfies the need to predict the social world in a general sense. Stereotyping can be done by parents, teachers, coaches and peers. When a teenager is stereotyped, she might assume she has to measure up to certain standards. Stereotyping puts a teen in a box, making little room for growth beyond society's limited labels and often unjustified expectations. Using different language can help reduce stereotypes, also think before you speak.
Blogs should be written in your own words. While I might let a one-sentence definition slide, especially if you put it in quotes, I can't let this slide. Stereotypes are usually just assumptions about a certain group, gender, or race of people. Stereotypes demean people and make them seem lower than they are. They are to be seen as they are put out to be in the stereotype, not for what they actually are. Stereotypes exist for many reasons. Many of those reasons include hatred, disliking or discrimination. Stereotypes are passed down just by talking about them. The stereotypes are continued on throughout the people who believe them. I think stereotypes do change the people being affected by them. Eventually it gets to them and that’s all they know about themselves. They believe the cruel things people say and some people either act upon it in anger or just stay down. An example of a stereotype would be the Holocaust. Everybody saw Jews the same- which was not good at all; thus resulting in a genocide. We as people can stop stereotypes by standing up against it and proving them wrong.
ReplyDeleteA stereotype is a misconstrued perception on a person or group. They are usually formed because of the environment we live in and the events that happen in it. All stereotypes formed have had some truth to them in the past or present, even if it was lost or blown completely out of proportion. Take for example, its a stereotype that all Indians want to be doctors. The reason this formed was because in the culture of india, Medicine is a widely respected field of research, so being a doctor is considered a very respectable profession. As a result, many parents raise their kids with the expectations they will become a doctor. Even I want to be a doctor, but not because i am Indian, but because i'm interested in helping people. Another darker stereotype, after the events of 9/11, anyone who has brown skin or is muslim, is called a terrorist. This is a very real stereotype a considering our current "War on Terror". My family can't even get through airport security unless everyone 18+ gets "random searched". During my freshman year on the anniversary of 9/11, A fellow Indian classmate and I were personally searched by our principle, but he claimed it was a "random search. All groups are stereotyped in a way, they all deal with their prejudices. Its just a social stigma we have lived with since the dawn of time.
ReplyDeleteThis is an excellent example of what I'm looking for in a blog, Vishaal. You explained what stereotypes are clearly and in your own words, and you gave relevant examples. I like how you said you "want to be a doctor, but not because i am Indian, but because i'm interested in helping people." I think too often people forget that human beings are individuals, not just members of a racial, ethnic, religious, socioeconomic, or other grouping.
DeleteA stereotype is a widely held but fixed image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. Stereotypes can also be based on gender, race, the way you dress, and etc. Stereotypes are assumptions that people make that are based on the history of a race or the things that are normally done by a certain gender or race. Mass media has a lot to do with the way people are stereotyped such as “White girls go to Starbucks.” or “Black people are known for violence.” Normally, stereotypes are passed down in a family. Stereotypes affect how our society is viewed today because people have their own opinion on how “Blacks” or “Whites” do things. Stereotypes have negative effects because when a crime happens and it falls between certain stereos of a race or gender, that race or gender would take the blame for it. We can reduce the negative effects of stereotypes by proving our society and our people wrong.
ReplyDeleteI like your idea for reducing negative effects by proving people wrong.
DeleteA stereotype is a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. Stereotypes affect the way people are perceived because if tons of people think a certain way about you then people that don’t even know you are going to go off of what everybody else is saying instead of getting to know you and find out for themselves. Stereotypes are passed down to people in many ways. In family your parents or even grandparents might stereotype certain people or things and if you grow up around that then you will most likely think that way when you’re older and can think for yourself. Another way is in school, sometimes they may teach you certain things about people and since that’s what you’re learning that is what you will think. Yes, I think stereotypes affect the way people behave. I think this because if there is a bad stereotype about a certain type of people then whenever you’re around that type of person you will behave differently in my opinion. A way we can try to reduce the negative effects of stereotypes is to stop portraying people and things a certain way on social media. For example, with all the racist police violence being put on the internet, a lot of people are thinking that all police officers are like that, but in all reality they’re not. Another example would be in movies. In a lot of African-American movies we are portrayed as bad people because they’re doing things like drugs, fighting, and going to jail. If social media and everything else would stop having a general lifestyle of everybody then the stereotypes of everyone would not be that bad.
ReplyDeleteGood examples and your point about social media is important as well.
DeleteWhat is a stereotype a stereotype is something that a certain race or certain group is expected to do. How do stereotypes perceive the way we see people is that we expect them to do certain things. Stereotypes exist because people expect certain groups or certain people to do things that most of that race or group of people do. The people that create stereotypes are another race or another group of people to try and discriminate the group there making the stereotype about. Stereotypes are passed down between people by jokes, stories, or even by the media. Yes i think stereotypes affect the way people see themselves because they feel like they can't do certain things without consequences. Some examples are that blacks steal, white people don't get in trouble with the cops like black, or that asians get good grades. We can reduce the negativity by not making fun of people and keeping stuff to ourselves. Like the saying goes if you don't have nothing nice to say then don't say nothing.
ReplyDeleteA stereotype is an image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. Stereotypes affect the way people are perceived because they judge people by the way they look and not at who the typically are. Stereotypes exist because people don’t care about what’s on the inside they only care about what they can see, they judge you by what you look like and not by what you have been through. people with no hearts are the ones i believe created stereotypes. they are passed on between people because people tend to follow what others do and not think for themselves. yes i do think that stereotypes change the way people view themselves and others. i believe that a way to reduce the negative effects of stereotypes would be to have everyone worrying about other people and what they are doing and start worrying about themselves. if people would stop trying to judge everyone and everyone and everything they would go through life a lot easier.

ReplyDeleteIntelligent. Agressive. Outstanding. Dominate. They are all used to describe peoples characteristics, however, these may also constitute stereotypes. Stereotypes are qualities that belong to groups of people related to their race, nationality, sexual orientation, personality or physical characteristics. The use of stereotypes is a major way we simplify our social world. Rather than getting to know the person right then, we look at how they talk, dress, and appear to us. Then we place them in a category they fit in, in our mind. By stereotyping we infer that a person has the characteristics and abilities, all members of that group have. Stereotypes affect the way many people live their life because society judge’s a person by another individual’s actions. Many people can't control the things in their life, so judging them upon it is ridiculous. How is a person supposed to be themself and truly show who they are, when we have over three-fourths of our world population judging them on everything they do? The problem is, its very oblivious to many people, which causes it to turn into bullying. Stereotypes is a problem we will face for a very long time, and there's really nothing we can do about it. Its passed down. I believe that a person is who they are. If you want people to accept who you are, why wouldn’t you accept who they are? Everyone is different and that's what makes this world so unique. If we were all the same, it would be pointless. For example, the whole “racist police officers” deal that's been going on lately, many people believe they really do have hatred for African Americans, though that may be true, but an individual has no right to judge them upon that. They don’t physically know them. They only know the other things people have said. I think If people who learn to stop judging people on what they hear, or see maybe our world will be a better place. Until then, Bullying is going to continue, Racism is going to get stronger and wars will eventually uprise.
One advantage of a stereotype is that it enables people to respond rapidly to situations because we may have had a similar experience before. One disadvantage is that it makes us ignore differences between individuals; therefore we think things about people that might not be true make generalizations. The use of stereotypes is a major way in which we simplify our social world; since they reduce the amount of processing thinking we have to do when we meet a new person. By stereotyping we infer that a person has a whole range of characteristics and abilities that we assume all members of that group have. Stereotypes leads us to putting people in categories which is one of the reasons for prejudice attitudes mentality which leads to in-groups and out-groups. But I think that people need to stop being so stereotypical because you can really think wrong about somebody. Because I have been stereotypical and been totally wrong about somebody.

A stereotype is when people look at somebody else and judge them off what they have heard, look like, or their past. Stereotypes affect the way people are perceived, because they are being judged without even knowing that person , on a personal level. Stereotypes exist , because society has made it that way. People create stereotypes , we start them up ourselves. They are passed down between generations, because that maybe what they have been told all their life. Yes, i do think it does affects people behavior and look at themselves. An example is how people look at blacks. A stereotype is that how all black people like chicken or hot sauce. You hear that a lot, but that’s a stereotype and little do people know , not all black people eat chicken and not all black people like hot sauce on their food. Stereotyping can be reduced by getting to know people personally and not just y what they hear.

ReplyDeleteA stereotype is a idea that is given to a assigned race, nationality, or gender. Stereotypes exist because people like to feel superior. Stereotypes are passed down by people saying them to someone and then they remember it and then they’ll go tell their friends and then the stereotype is passed around so then everyone knows it. I think stereotypes do affect the way people view themselves because with stereotypes, it makes us feel nervous to be ourselves around people and then we won't be showing people who we really are. Stereotypes can influence what career people decide to go for. For example, a man might want to be a nurse but doesn't follow his dreams because he thinks that the career of being a nurse is for a woman. I think we could reduce the negative effects of stereotypes by not worrying what others say or think about us.
What is a stereotype? A is a huge image or idea that separates a person or thing to their particular type in many categories. A person for example is different from everybody else because of his or her gender, race, religion, personality, age, size and many more. Stereotype affects people both in a positive and negative way. In a good way people can known for great achievements or a good role model for others, and sometimes people can see others in a bad way; theses guys can be a bad influence on other people. The main reason why stereotypes exist today it is showing you that everyone is special, no one is the same, and there's always something different about a person that everyone else. Theses shapes a person’s views drastically, affecting their lifestyles, their view are determined by their ancestors’ actions. A person can different interest in many cliques based on the stereotype and it can cause major problems in our world, such as bullying, racism, addiction, distractions etc. It is hard solve the problems to theses stereotypes but there is a way to reduce them by trying to create a good stereotypical group to stop theses problems on the face of this planet.
ReplyDeleteA stereotype is used to categorize a group of people. People don’t understand that type of person so they put them into classifications, thinking everybody who acts, thinks, dresses, and/or looks like a stereotype is one. Stereotypes affect the way people are perceived in unfair ways. They could give one group and advantage over the other and are the start of many conflicts in the world today. Stereotypes exist because there are people in this world who don't like the idea of being different, they think everybody should be the same as them and want everybody else to be treated as less most of the time. Stereotypes are created by biased people, racists, and generally all people who don’t like the idea of people being different from them. Stereotypes are passed down between people by one person teaching another that they should be a certain way and all those who aren’t are not the same as them and should be treated different. Yes, in my opinion if people are put into a stereotype at times they think its good and they like that stereotype so they dress how they’re expected, talk about things they are expected to talk about, and other things that would make them stay in that stereotype. But there are those people who actually try to be a little different because most stereotypes are bad, Stereotypes can be good but most of the time they are bad. We can reduce the negative effect of stereotypes by not judging people as much as we do.
ReplyDeleteA stereotype is defined as a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. Stereotypes affects the way people are perceived by making people think that people are in one type of group because of the way they act, but in reality they aren’t really like the other people in the group. Stereotypes exist because people judge other people now by the way they look and the way they act. Everyone creates stereotypes because we think that everyone should be in a certain group, not just a normal person. Stereotypes are passed down between people because we are taught by our parents what is right and wrong. Some stereotypes are racial stereotypes, and stereotypes based on the way someone looks. We can reduce the effect of stereotypes by teaching people not to judge someone based on looks or attitude and by the persons character.

ReplyDeleteStereotypes are nothing but the Father of racism. Stereotypes are a usually a false idea about a group of people that belong to a certain nationality or ethnicity. Stereotypes cause people to form a general idea on somebody without even knowing that person. Lets take a common stereotype like all black people like watermelon. The reason i picked this particular stereotype , because I’m black and ironically I hate watermelon. One day in middle school I was walking down the lunch line and then this lunch lady says “ we have watermelon today” and then she looks at me and says “I know you want some watermelon”. At first I didn’t think anything of it and all I said was “no I don’t”. Then she got this this puzzled look on her face and said “why not” I just replied that I didn’t like it and then walked away. After I walked away I then just thought to myself did this old coot just thinked that I wanted watermelon just because I was black? Crazy isn’t it but this how stereotypes are. Now that I look back on this moment in my life i think it really isn’t her fault that she doesn’t know all black people don’t like watermelon it’s just she isn’t aware that some black people don’t like watermelon. So when you hear a stereotype about you or a group you belong too don’t get mad just remember it’s just because that person isn’t aware that, that piece of information is incorrect.
A stereotype is an oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. An assumption is a thing that is accepted as true, without proof. Stereotyping is a more detailed assumption. Stereotypes affect the way people are perceived because it almost like a first impression if that’s all you see then it could be associated with something that is bad. According to researchers, stereotypes exist for many different reasons. I think everybody creates stereotypes, not on purpose but we do. Stereotyping is a learned behavior, it can come from all aspects of life. It can come from watching television or talking about it to others.Yes I think that stereotypes can affect the way people view themselves. They can feel out of place if they care about what others think. Sometimes it won’t affect them, maybe they’re okay with what others think. We can try to reduce the negative effects of stereotypes by not exaggerating an image or an idea of a certain person or thing. So if we see a person with red hair instead of assuming they are a hot head we just admire the fact that they have red hair.
ReplyDeleteA stereotype is a judgement or opinion of an individual or group of people that is mostly false, but sometimes can be true. For example: African-Americans play basketball better than others, or hispanics play soccer better than others. Stereotypes are passed down from generation to generation. They are often created by individuals and slowly become opinions then generalized statements that are repeated. I think they exist because of jealousies or insecurities. People, who live in the northern part of the United States, often laugh about southern accents, and feel we are an ignorant group of people because of the way we talk. This isn’t fact but rather an opinion, but if told repeatedly over time you may start to believe it making the stereotype continue. One way to reduce the negative effects caused by stereotypes is by not repeating what you hear. By ignoring stereotypes, they simply cease to exist. They can no longer hurt anyone’s feelings or define their character.
ReplyDeleteA stereotype is a perceived impression that usually involves people that most of the time is not true. It affects the way they are looked at or judged in the wrong way but sometimes good. The reason stereotypes exist is because people don’t know how to look at someone or something without coming up with a stereotype. I think it does affect the way people view, behave, or perceive themselves because if that person knows about stereotypes about him/her then they might believe it true and start making it true when it’s really not. Like if one girl says that a girl looks weird and it started to move around the school it finally got to that girl. I know that if the whole school thought I was weird I think I would act a little different. The way I think we should try to reduce stereotype is ignoring it when one makes a stereotype. Don’t let the people get in your head and don’t let it bother you.
ReplyDeleteStereotypes are thoughts that people have about another group, whether by race, gender, or age. Stereotypes are not all true, they make people feel like they are not worth anything and is on a lower level than other people, they can reduce one’s self- esteem and their motivation in life. Stereotypes are typical created by one person or group and it then spreads rampantly throughout society. An example of a stereotype can be like, “ all african- americans are fast”, or “all asians are smart”, “white girls and starbucks”. All are negative thoughts towards a particular group whether true or not. One out of many ways to reduce stereotyping is to just stop and think to yourself, would I want people talking about me and my nationality like that? Its important for us to think before speak; Why are we so quick to judge but so slow to appreciate the good things in life?
ReplyDeleteA stereotype is a a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. Stereotypes affect the way people are percieved by catergorizing them not only does it affect the person precieved by stereotype but the person making the assumption. The person or group making the assumption is set on only the things they hear about the group from false sources. Stereotypes are from race perception I believe stereotypes are also from people who are scared of a group but also if they have no knowledge about the group. Stereotypes are passed down from family and friends and it is being passed the rumors only get worse The stereotypes that people have on group affect the group because it can result in violence stereotyping is dangerous and ignorant. A group of stereotypes may look at themselves as less of a person from the brain washing. Instead of going with these false claims we could educate our seleves of a group we don't know and just heard of
ReplyDeleteA stereotype is a belief held by a person about a group of people that is usually an oversimplified and often hurtful and untrue view of that group. They can lead to harmful things like bullying or even going as far as genocide like in the case of the Jews in World War 2. Stereotypes affect how these groups are perceived by influencing the people who have these stereotypes or have heard these stereotypes in a negative way therefore making them have a negative view on the group affected. I think stereotypes are created when a person has one or multiple negative experiences with a certain group of people so they unintentionally for these unfair opinions about the entire group or they can be created by people who are trying to further their own agenda by making the public's perception of the affected group negative. I don’t think we can ever completely get rid of the stereotypes but I do think we can lessen the effects of them by not judging a group of people before you get to know them.
ReplyDeleteA stereotype is a image for a person or thing. Stereotypes affect the way people are perceived because people think a different way about that type of people. Stereotypes exist because people make it up and spread the word so then everyone will know later. Humans create stereotypes because they might not like a certain type of person. Stereotypes are passed down by one person who will tell that stereotype to everyone and then those people who were told will let the people they know and it will just go on. Yes I think stereotypes affect the way people view, behave or perceive themselves because they start to believe the things that everyone is saying and accept it. An example is someone telling another person that he sucks in basketball because he is not tall enough so that person will question his own game unless your Kobe who will just embarrass you on the court. We can try to reduce the negative effects of stereotypes is by not creating them or believing in them because if you don't start it or listen to it it won't spread.
ReplyDeleteStereotypes are assumptions of certain groups or individuals being a certain way based off of their religion, race and even gender sometimes . Stereotypes affect the way people are perceived because others may discriminate or think they are a certain way based off of those stereotypes. Others might not give those certain individuals or groups a chance to show who they are instead most just go with who they are thought to be as . I think that society creates stereotypes . Most of us tend to separate people based on our differences . those differences range from what food you eat to how you dress to how you talk to the religion you practice and even to the country you are from. Stereotypes aren’t necessarily passed down but grow more popular as time goes by if people continue to seperate others based on their differences I think that these differences affect they way people think and perceive themselves because the more people speak of these stereotypes the more you start to believe it and you start caring less about these stereotypes . An example of a stereotype is people thinking that all Asians are geniuses when in reality their country is said to have some of the smartest people but doesn’t actually mean all Asians are geniuses . We can reduce the negative effects of stereotypes by not speaking of them and giving people more of a chance to express who they are as a individual.
ReplyDeleteStereotypes are people who have a one certain view about a particular type of thing or person. It is basically a label, usually used negatively. Anyone from around the world can create stereotypes, although they’re most likely not even true what they think. All people of all nationalities have been victims of being stereotyped. Other nationalities make fun of others. They all have a mindset of what the people in that country should be like. They think everyone who is that needs to be like that. Some people don’t understand or have knowledge of a person or thing so they put them into classifications. Most of the categories they’re classified into is negative. These stereotypes definitely affect the way people view themselves. For example, when blonde hair colored people are like “I’m so dumb” and people say “It’s because you’re blonde”. We can reduce the effects of stereotypes by accepting the fact that everyone is different.
ReplyDeleteA stereotype is an oversimplified label that people put onto others by the way they act, dress, or who they hang out with. Stereotypes affect the way people are perceived because if you are stereotyped as an “emo” people think you cut your self and are depressed and more than likely people would avoid you as much as possible. Stereotypes exist because people like to put things into groups for easy categorization. Stereotypes are created by everyone, not just kids. When your stereotyped, you often start believing that you were categorized for a reason and you start acting more like the stereotype you were labeled as. When you show some of the characteristics of a certain group, lets say a “prep” then you’ll most likely start hanging out with more of the “prep” crowd, you will also act more, and dress more like them too. We can try and reduce the negative effects of stereotyping by making better categories. Most of the categories we use are negative and focus on the negative aspects of someone’s personality.
ReplyDeleteA stereotype is a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. Stereotypes affect people because it can make them feel wrong about themselves or uneasy. People can create stereotypes by judging them by what they look like or even what they believe in can be created. Stereotypes are passed down just by talking about whoever it is, they are continued on through the people who believe what they hear. Yes, I think stereotypes can affect the way people view other and even themselves. Because these days people care too much of what others think. An example is wearing basic things like everyone wears, whatever is popular. We can reduce the negative effects by not judging people or a certain group by what they wear or what they look like. Just to get to actually know the people or person before you start to judge about them.
ReplyDeleteA Stereotype is a widely fixed image of a particular type of person or thing. stereotypes can make a person or a typical race or group seem mean, loud, stupid, stuck up, etc. Most stereotypes are made up on movies or based off the older time periods and how people acted back then. Stereotypes are passed down by our grandparents, parents, movies, etc. In movies they show how certain groups or people act, so people automatically start to think that its the way that specific group really is. A person is usually judged based off their stereotypes which sometimes will make a person over look the way that person really act. For example, if anyone sees a blond white girl, the automatically believes that she is dumb or acts stupid even if she isn’t. Another example is say a black person is loud and ghetto. Not all of them act that way, some are quiet and have manners.
ReplyDeleteA stereotype is a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. Stereotypes affect people to more self conscious, and sometimes their misunderstood. Stereotypes exist because of current or past events that affect that group of people. People who creates stereotypes usually, I think, as a joke. Social media passes around these beliefs about people; simply socializing with you friends, making jokes, is another way that those stereotypes become rampant. Some people let the stereotypes influence themselves, and will most likely act very self conscious. Others won’t care, or make more stereotypes. Sometimes, stereotypes can be helpful, as it could tell you about some; however, it is not very reliable and in the long run, stereotypes should be forgotten.
ReplyDeleteA stereotype is a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person, thing, or group. Stereotypes change the way people are viewed. Stereotypes set an image for a specific type of group of people or things. Stereotypes make people think of other people differently about the way that type of people would act or speak. Stereotypes exist because people get treated or act in a way to where there are standards set to that specific group of people. Stereotypes are created by people who are ignorant and see a few people do one thing and expect all of that type of people to do it too. Other ways that stereotypes are spread or created is by parents exposing their child to that stereotype and passing it down. I do believe stereotypes change the way people act or perceive themselves because they hear the stereotype and are raised to act like what is expected from that stereotype. Stereotypes can be diminished if people just don’t talk about them or use them. Thats very difficult though because someone will always use a stereotype somewhere around the world.
ReplyDeleteWhat is a stereotype? There are many definitions for the word stereotype. The first definition is
ReplyDeletea widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. The second definition is stereotypes are characteristics that are pinned on groups of people involving gender, race, national origin and other things. A famous American broadcast journalist Edward R. Murrow. Once said, "Everyone is a prisoner of his own experiences. No one can eliminate prejudices - just recognize them." We will always have prejudice and we can't really stop it, but we can always take the time to address even if it means being judged by people because of what you believe in.
A stereotype is a person who thinks something about a person without knowing if its true or not. This makes people not like a type of race and it makes people look bad. Stereotypes exist because people live in the old days where there was slavery and think thats how we should treat people; or they think all Germans hate Jews. We ourselves created stereotypes and we could end it if we stop thinking the way we do. Families don’t realize it but they pass down being a stereotype by talking about a person’s race without knowing them personally. Being stereotyped changes how people live because they don’t want to be viewed that way when they know it isn’t true. We can try and stop talking about these things out loud maybe if we kept it in our heads things wouldn’t happen and it wouldn’t be passed down to our children. If we stop it this world would be so much better than what it is right now.
