“More often than not, a hero’s most epic battle is the one you never see; it’s the battle that goes on within him or herself.” Kevin Smith
Heroes are people who we idolize--people who we emulate. A hero typically embodies the values of his or her nation. Gilgamesh was a hero because he organized and protected his city-state. Sundiata was a hero because he was able to unite the tribes of Mali and to lead them both in and out of battle. Achilles was a hero to the Greeks because of his strength, wit, and skill in battle.
What qualities would a hero in our culture embody? Who is an example of a modern hero, and what makes that person a hero? Support your answer with details and explanations.
Here’s an example for you:
In my opinion, a modern hero is someone who stands up for what they believe in and fights for social justice. I think Malala Yousafzai is a hero because she fights for educational equality for females. Even though she is only sixteen, Malala has campaigned to fight laws in Pakistan that would prevent girls from having access to schools. Some Taliban extremists didn’t like this, so they shot her. Malala miraculously survived, and she continues to speak out for educational equality. She has received several awards and accolades; she was even on the cover of Time magazine. Malala is a hero because most people would be too afraid to stand up for their own rights, but she fights for herself and for other young people.

I believe a hero should be someone who doesn’t care what others think, and stands up for what they believe in. Jimi Hendrix was one of those people. In his time, 1942-1970, African Americans had it rough. They had just started to gain control, and defeat the being of slaves, though it was still going around. Many people hated the African Americans to the point where they would try to sue them for the littlest thing, force them to sit at the back of the bus, make them go to different schools, or even try to kill them. They faced a hard life during that time. Many people stood up for them but it didn’t help. Jimi Hendrix was considered as one of the greatest electric guitarists that the musical world has ever witnessed. He composed music that included many different genres of hard rock, jazz and the blues. His style of music has been an inspiration for many musicians, as well as the fact he was the first African American who made it in the music world at this time. He started his career by forming his first band, called “The Jimmy Hendrix Experience” where he played the guitar, and sang as the lead vocalist. In time, he received many awards and was know as the King of Jazz for a very long time. I believe he is a hero because many people would have just given up, but he didnt. He knew, becoming a success in music would be very hard because of how the world was at the time, but he didn’t give up, he pushed harder and showed the everyone, anything is possible.
ReplyDeleteSo my hero would be Jesus Christ. I would say Jesus is my hero because he never gave up on his mission/calling. Even when people swore he wasn’t Jesus he would show him that he is God son. Also he saved thousands of people, by reading, talking, and showing people how to make it to heaven. Jesus had the power to do anything he wanted to do and always did the right thing. He would even bless people or heal people and nobody else has been able to heal people like Jesus could. So I would say he is the best super hero out there. Also in the Bible it says don’t get mad at others or hold thing against others. So I try to live by the Bible but I’m not perfect but Jesus never sinned. Also he said he will come back and after heroes die they never come back. But this hero can come back and will come back, and save thousands of more people who deserve to go to heaven and live with his father. So these are my reasons I say that Jesus is the best hero out there and nobody can say they have a better hero then me.
ReplyDeleteA hero in my opinion would be someone who inspires to make others feel better about themselves,an extrovert if you will. A hero he or she, would try to make the world better by helping out with maybe homeless people, doing something like bringing them food or helping them out by giving them spare change you have or like a few dollars to get them a meal. Also, helping out around their town or city by cleaning up the litter or campaigning a change for the better for schools, women rights to be paid the same as men, or anything else that should be changed but isn’t being bothered with. They could also be doing things around their house as in helping their mom or dad with the cleaning or other things. A main inspiration would be changing a lot of things that are wrong in the world or at least aspiring to change them. Putting forth an effort to change them not just being bothered by them and not doing anything to change them. That in my opinion is what a hero in our culture would be.
ReplyDeleteA hero would be a person who has fought to make a change in world and who has made a change in the world. My hero would be Martin Luther King, because he had a dream and fought for it. He protested, and he stood for what he believed what was right. His famous speech “ I have a dream..” has changed the world today. He dreamed of equal rights between black and white. Martin Luther King is my hero, because he changed a lot of things, he fought hard, and no matter what he had to go through he still had his dream. Martin Luther King’s legacy still goes on even though he was assassinated in 1968. He is known for his desire for equal rights, and the dreams he had. That’s my idea of a hero, and what it takes to be a hero. Even though it takes a lot of trouble, that is what makes a hero.
ReplyDeleteSome qualities a hero in our culture would embody would be, to be a role model for people. A hero is someone who saves another without hesitation. They should be strong physically and mentally. A hero should always be someone to look up to. In our modern day culture a hero for me would be my parents. Even though they are not still together, they get along well and make sure that I have everything I could ever need. I think of them as a hero because no matter what they would drop everything to save me, or help me if I was in need. They always will go out of their way to be there when I need them. My dad is physically strong and my mom is mentally strong. Both of my parents together fit together to make the perfect hero for me. This is why they are my heroes.
ReplyDeleteThe qualities in our culture that a hero would embody would be strong, courageous, self-control, hard working and never gives up. An example of a modern hero today would be like someone who stands for what they believe because they have courage and they have to be strong for what they believe. When you believe something very strongly and someone says you are wrong or makes fun of you because you believe in that you have to stay strong in your faith. You have to have self-control so you don’t get mad, sad or discouraged. You also have to have strong courage to stand for what you believe in and that what I think a hero represents in this culture.
ReplyDeleteA hero is someone who shows extreme determination and confidence. They also help, whether that be other people or themselves. I believe a hero is someone who can put the world on their shoulders and act as if nothing is there. That’s why my hero is Kobe Bryant. Kobe is one of the greatest basketball players of all time, holding 5 championships, 3rd in career points, and most 3 pointers shot within a game. He also holds the second highest scoring output in a game with 81 points. Kobe’s repertoire can fill up a novel but he wouldn’t have to show anyone because they already know. I admire Kobe for his attitude toward anyone he plays against and his confidence in himself. He goes against any player with the attitude that he can’t lose and he won’t lose. Sure he brags about his skill level but if you were that great you would too right?
ReplyDeleteA hero could be anyone a hero could be your dog if it really wanted to. A hero is someone who serves. A hero can be someone who fights for your rights or fights for the protection for people or things. A hero is what we all want to find we all think we need a hero but really we all can have a hero inside of us. A hero does not need to be someone who come flying in to save the day. You may find a hero in just someone who can make you smile whenever it need be. Heros are all different. We stereotype heros as a person with all of these powers that are supernatural but who needs power? Heros are what you make them you dont need powers to be one. I look up to those who can be brave enough to be a hero, to come and help when all seems lost. That is my hero someone who cares.
ReplyDeleteI think that a hero in our common culture would be someone who stands up for their beliefs and doesn’t give up easily. Someone who is not afraid to stand up for what is right; for justice. An example of a modern hero to me is my friend Jared. He has been through a lot and has taught me from his experiences and has become who he is because of all of his trial and because of that to me, he is someone who is genuine. he does not care what others think and stands up for people that he loves and knows and also for people he doesn’t even know. He stands up for things that he believes in, like his religion and passion for certain things. He really doesn’t give up on things that easily, he perseveres through things, especially since he is a Junior and it is a really hard year I’ve been told. He has taught me many things, like how to let go and live my life to the fullest and how to love and be loved. He has taught me to not let people judge you and if they do stand up for what YOU believe because everyone is different. In my eyes he is a true hero and “master” on teaching me things and just being someone people can look up to, like I have. :)

ReplyDeleteCulture encompasses religion, food, what we wear, how we wear it, our language, marriage, music, what we believe is right or wrong, how we sit at the table, how we greet visitors, how we behave with loved ones, and a million other things. I believe Obama is a hero because our country is equilibrium. We haven’t had any terrorist attacks with him as our president. He shows the american culture, he is a excellent role model to his family and also others. Barack Obama is brave because he took a chance and a risk that his life might be taken as he ran for President and became the President-Elect of the United States of America. He has courage as the President, he is taking on the job during tough economic times. We hope that change will come in the form of lower taxes, lower food costs and gas costs, better schools and affordable housing.
A hero should be someone you are able to look up to. Someone that inspires you and constantly does the right thing. Someone that is trustworthy and has confidence. A hero has to be unique, not afraid to stand out on their own. You should be able to tell if someone is a hero by their actions. An example of a hero is God. God is a hero to me because he is different and sacrificed his own son for all of us. He has great character traits and inspires me to do right. He is an example for everyone. He see’s you for who you are and not for all you have done. He forgives you for all your sins and accepts the fact we are going to sin. God is a hero and show it through his love. Not everyone believes God is a hero. I God did and still does a lot of amazing things that can not be explained thats why i think God is a hero.
ReplyDeleteA hero to me would be someone with all the top life qualities, such as respect, honesty, loyalty, and very brave. A modern hero for me would be a firefighter, policeman, or a member of the military. Not all hero’s have to be famous or significant. There are many people who have taken up things in their daily lives. Just simply getting involved can open doors to bigger and better projects involving human needs or even rescue opportunities. I think one of my biggest hero's would be my dad. He has helped me through anything that life has thrown my way and I couldn't thank him enough. He inspires me to be a responsible, caring, Christian based young man. My dad went from not finishing college, to being the top realtor in the Charlotte/Gastonia area. Even though my dad is a dork, he can be the coolest guy out there and most importantly a great role model.
ReplyDeleteA hero in our culture today doesn’t have superpowers like Superman or Iron Man. A hero is somebody that can affect somebodys life in a postive way, they stand up for what they believe in. A modern day hero would be someone like Trina Pratt. Not many people know who she is but she was a hero in my life, she used to work at the boys and girls club when I use to go there. I knew her for a long period in my life ( almost 7 or 8 years), she was a great woman and I always looked up to her. She inspired me to be a great person in life and always pushed me to be the best I can be, not only did she inspire me but also many others. She was inducted into the Boys and Girls Club Hall of Fame and moved to Greensboro to continue her work there and affect the life of more people.
ReplyDeleteExcellent response, Jacquez. I like that you told a personal story about a hero who positively influenced your life but also the lives of others.
DeleteThe qualities that would make somebody be considered as a hero would be. That there brave, big hearted, help out the community, save somebody, risk your life to protect something, serve the united states in the navy or army, by being a good person and helping people out, or just do something great for a lot of people by helping them out. An example of a modern hero is somebody that's in the army or navy, somebody that fights for our country, somebody that’s saved lives, somebody that’s did something brave to help people out of harms way. Some thing that makes somebody a hero is serving for our country, helping people out of burning buildings, and helping people by getting them out of harm's way and keeping them safe. That’s what qualities a hero would have, the people that are considered a modern hero, and what makes a person a hero.
ReplyDeleteMy definition of a hero is someone that fights for what they want and will overcome anything that gets in their way. A “hero” that comes to my mind is Michael Jordan for example. Now, I don’t play basketball nor do I care so much for it, the story of Michael Jordan is incredible! Michael Jordan overcame doubt. Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team, but that didn’t stop him from playing it. He worked hard, got better, and was drafted in the first round in the 1984 draft by the Chicago Bulls from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. He went on to play 15 season for both the Bulls and the Wizards. He has six championship rings and he was named finals mvp six times. He is known as one of the greatest of all time by many. And role model by many. That is why Michael Jordan comes to mind when I hear the word hero
ReplyDeleteGood explanation of how a celebrity can fulfill the role of a hero as someone who overcomes obstacles and someone we can look up to and strive to be like.
DeleteI believe a hero in our culture would need to be brave to be able to see all the horrible things in the world. They would need to have compassion, to help out everyone that they can. A hero would need to be strong, emotionally and mentally. They put others before themselves and dont give up on goals, no matter what happens. I believe Doc Hendley is a modern day hero. He is the founder of Wine to Water, a charity that provides water to people all over the world. He is brave because he risks his life to bring those families water. He has to see things that most people would hate to see. He’s compassionate for helping out all those people. Heroes don't have to be someone with superpowers. A hero can just be someone on the street, you never know.
ReplyDeleteI like that you brought in charity as an important value for our culture. Good example of someone doing things on a global scale, even though many people may not have heard of him.
DeleteI believe a hero is someone who stands out from others and they takes up for others. A hero is to me is that person who no matter whats stands up for everyone and knows who they are. my hero is God cause even when he was getting tortured for being different in the bible he still loved and cared everyone. Another hero to me is my mom and dad cause they took me and my brother in when we were 8 years old and they love us and care for us regardless of what everyone told them. Statistics said some things that would make you not want to care for someone but my parents didn’t care about any of that. they are my heros regardless of what everyone else thinks and i love them and thank God for them.
ReplyDeleteI believe that a hero is someone who always puts their family, friends, and comrades (teammates) before themselves. A true hero always cares about others more than their self, they make so many sacrifices for their team, country, or family. A hero does whatever it takes to make their family proud and happy. For example the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen who achieved the Medal of Honor are the bravest heroes on the face of this planet. Not only they’d put their fellow comrades before them, they put the entire county on their backs to protect your freedom. Theres only a few people in the military who are brave enough to make theses acts of a true hero and thats why the Medal of Honor was achieved by these brave people. Thats a hero to me. A person who is always selfish and is thinking about his or herself will never be worthy of a hero.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion a true hero isn't someone who is born great, strong, defeats monsters or bad guys. True heroes are our parents, neighbors, people who put others first before himself or herself. Our parents, guardians, or even adult role models are heroes because they encourage us and put our needs before their own. Our neighbors get involved in the community to make sure that the people in the community are safe. People do not have to get involved in the community but they feel it is an obligation or duty as a citizen. One hero that captivated my attention, and left me in awe of what a true hero is was Dr Kent Brantly. Kent is an American doctor who went to Liberia to treat Ebola patients. " He didn't have to go and help those people; He does not personally know them!" " So then why? Why do people like Kent put themselves in situations where their is obviously danger lurking?" It is because they feel a calling and obligation to put others before themselves and help people no matter the risk. Kent is a hero who put others first in more than one situation. First this man puts himself in danger to help patients who have a serious deadly contagous virus then he contracts the virus and insists that the only experimental serum that there is to go to his colleague. Kent is obviously an everyday hero. Everyday heroes are all around us. They are not just in myths, stories, and movies. " Yes I do admit that battling monsters or going on some crazy journey to find emortality sounds pretty stupendous but we don't have to be born heroes to be one." We are all a story that ends, so make your story count.
ReplyDeleteExcellent example of a specific person who took risks in his own life to help improve the lives of others.
DeleteA hero to me is someone who inspires you to be great so my hero would be Michael Jordan and Carmelo Anthony. Michael Jordan changed the game of basketball for everyone and he is the greatest player to ever play the game. Michael Jordan is an example for people who want to be great basketball players because he can do it all crossovers, clutch moment, offence, and defense.I look up to him because I want to be as great as he was. Carmelo Anthony is my favorite basketball player who plays for the New York Knicks. The Knicks haven't won a championship since 1973 and he can make them come back to become a championship team again. Our president of the team is Phil Jackson who can bring in player to help Melo out. We have a first round draft pick so we are going for the best college player Jahlil Okafor who can help us alot. We have a lot of money to sign big name free agents. I want Melo to win us a championship so I look up to him to bring my hometown team a championship and one day I want to play for the Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
ReplyDeleteIn today’s society a hero could be anyone who wants to make a difference. In my opinion military personnel are the most known hero. Our military fights for the U.S citizens rights and to make sure no other country invades us. they can be considered heros because it takes a lot of bravery to put your life on the line. when military personnel sign up to serve they know that there’s a 50% chance they aren’t coming back. Also they have to make the decision to leave their family for a long period of time. Most people aren’t ready for this type of experience. I know that most people wouldn’t have the guts to take someones life. Me personally I couldn't do it. I wouldn’t be able to leave my family, put my life on the line, nor take someone else’s life from them. One recently know hero is Chris kyle “the American sniper”. He held the record for the most kills in U.S history. He served his country, protected his fellow citizens, and lost his life for his country.

Good example of going from a general group of people (military) to a specific individual who you consider to be a hero.
DeleteA hero is someone who puts themselves at a risk, or uses their power and time, to save and help people. It's a very loose definition and can be a lot of things. You have your superheroes in the media, Batman and Superman, both use their powers to fight for justice and help the innocent, regardless of the risk involved for them. Though it is not a requirement, usually hero's have certain qualities. They tend to be brave, smart, quick thinking, and inspiring. There are other heroes to, heroes that actually exist in our world. Firefighters, people in the army, even an ordinary man can be a hero given the opportunity. “A big man defends himself, a bigger man defends others” was a quote i once heard from a children’s movie, and i believe it perfectly describes a hero. It’s a word many might not be able to perfectly define, but will know it when they see it.
ReplyDeleteThe qualities of a hero is someone who Is a very strong person. Who would be a role model in everything they do. Someone who people will look up to, and want to be one day. My modern day hero is my papaw. He is a hero to me because he is always there for me when I need him for whatever it is. He keeps me going on a day to day basis, no matter what is going on in his life or mine. He is never all about him, he is all about doing stuff for other people in a heartbeat. I’ve always been around he since I was born and ever since then he has been my biggest hero. I couldn’t live without him, he’s the biggest hero i could ever and will have. This is what I think a hero is and what makes a hero.
ReplyDeleteI think qualities a hero should have are very people-based. They do everything to better the everyday lives of the people living in the community. They do what is right and they stand up for what they believe in. Heros are basically the voice of the people. They fix what is wrong and inspire us in ways we could not inspire ourselves. Heroes are also people who don’t get praised for being heroes daily. They don’t expect a thank you or anything like that. I think an example of a modern hero is any policeman, fireman, or anybody involved in the military. I believe they are modern heroes because they fight on a daily basis to ensure us of our safety and security. They risk their lives just so we can live ours. They don’t even know who we are, they just do what’s right so that we live in a decent world.
ReplyDeleteI think heroes are people that encourage people to do the right things or helping someone get to where they need to be. My hero would be my sister because she encourage me to stay in school and go to college. Also, she tells me that I should choose a good group to be around, and to not let anyone bring me down. She helps me with things that I don’t understand and she support any decisions i make. Since she was the first one out of my family that went to college, she wants me to follow in her footsteps and make the rights decisions and reach my goals. My sister always told me that i can be anything i want to be and I shouldn’t let anyone stop me from getting to where I need to be. If it wasn’t for my sister I would have given up by now. In my opinion my sister is my biggest support system.
ReplyDeleteTo me, a hero is someone who does things to help others. they don't do it and expect or hope something will be in it for themselves. a hero will put others first no matter what. they will fight for what they believe in, do whats right and change lives. a hero doesn't have to have x-ray vision or super strength. the definition of a hero is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. some people think of marvel super heroes when they hear the word. others may think of doctors, emts, police or firefighters as their heros. i think of people who are making a difference in the world whether they are a hero to one person or millions. an example of a modern day hero to me would be susan b. anthony. she is a perfect example of a hero because she wasn't anyone special when she started fighting for what she believed in and she knew that. susan b. anthony was a school teacher who dedicated her life to woman suffrage. she was abused and opposed but she never gave up. she also campaigned against slavery. she has been described as being aggressive and compassionate when she spoke about the things she believed in. she traveled the nation giving speeches for womens rights.
ReplyDeleteTo me, a hero would be a person who can overcome many hardships and live as they believe that all people should live. My hero is Martin Luther King Jr. Because he went through a time of diversity and hardship, growing up in a segregated community. He however did not let this bring him down. King, after obtaining an education, again during the time of segregation, became a preacher. He spoke of protest’s and boycott’s and of sit downs, but he told the people that supported him and the movement to never resort to violence. He brought people of so many different skins and ethnicities. He changed the world for everyone who lived there. He showed the world that he had a dream, that all people could live together in harmony. All of America has had to live through hardships, but we never stayed down. I think in the end that’s one thing i really Admire about Dr. King, the fact he taught the American people to stand up for what they believe is right.
ReplyDeleteTo me a modern day hero consist of somebody who will stand up for the things they believe are right. Also someone who works/worked hard to get where they are or want to be in life. Anyone could fit this, but specifically for me it's my pawpaw. He did not have an easy childhood, but that never slowed him down. I look up to him in every way (mostly because he's 6'5). He stands for everything he believes in and never does it in a distasteful way. He is an honest, humble, caring man who would give you the shirt off his back if you asked. He never fails to put everyone he knows before himself and doesn't have a mean bone in his body. I strive to be a person like him in everything I do. I aspire to be as kind, caring, and loving as him. He is and will always be my hero.

In my opinion a hero is someone who is a modern hero should have the characteristics of kindness, selfless , and bravery. An example of a modern hero today is miley cyrus. The reason I say miley cyrus is a hero ,because she shows kindness to many people. The way she shows kindness is by donating to many charities; she donates to more than 30 charities. Miley cyrus also shows the characteristics of selflessness. She shows this by as i mentioned early by donating to charities, miley donates a $1 of each ticket she sells to her concert goes to charity. This shows selflessness because instead of just pocketing the money she gives it to other people. The last characteristic i think she shows is bravery, because she is not afraid to be herself in this day and time. Like when she cut off all her hair , I know many girls with long hair who couldn't even dream of doing that and living. Also when she posted her wrecking -ball video. I probably sure she knew all the controversy that was going to be said when she posted that video, but she showed bravery and posted it anyway. These are the characteristic that i think a modern hero should show and how miley cyrus shows these traits.
ReplyDeletemodern day hero to me is someone who shows determination, honesty and responsibility. We have our everyday heros such as doctors and counselors but for me someone in particular would be my sister. She was determined to go to college and become a psychologist , she was determined to take care of her son, she was determined to move out and become her own person. She didn’t have it easy but she still did what was supposed to be done. She has always pushed me to do my best and my other siblings. She taught me a lot about being a good person and I wouldnt wish for her to be any other way. She has pushed herself past her limits, working school and a family full time. She is great example of someone who has made it despite the pregnency. She never gave up and that to me says something. She has never even muttered a lie and shows great responsibility. She is my hero no matter what anyone else could dare say or think.
ReplyDeleteA hero to me is someone who is brave, loyal, caring, and responsible. Someone who can make good decisions and if they’re bad decisions, they will accept what they did wrong including the consequences. They’re unselfish which means they are willing to help others even if they need it or don’t. Most important, they will stand up for what is right no matter how hard it can be. They will do anything even if it means putting themselves in danger and not expect anything in return. For me, my heroes are my parents. All these qualities are things my parents have. There have been plenty of times they have put themselves in danger for me. They sacrifice all they can and work hard to be there for me. They’re heroes I can count on for anything.

ReplyDeleteToday in our culture a hero would be someone who stands up for what they believe in. In our society, values and opinions seem to change according to what is popular to most. If you state cursing is a bad thing, then don’t curse yourself or surround yourself with people that curse. Make a stand and stick to it no matter what people say. I feel my dad is a example of a modern hero. He believes in helping others. My father has a morning devotional time at our church that includes basketball. Sometimes this means he offers rides to and from the church in order for others to participate. He may give people money for gas in order to attend or just lend a listening ear. No matter your ethnic background or social status he treats all the same. There is a golden rule that states treat others the way you would have them treat you. I feel that my dad embodies that principle everyday.
A hero in our culture would be someone who care about others before him/her-self. An extrovert who will do something to change somebody else’s day. There are always many heroes, and enough heroes will change somebody’s life. Everyday, one person changes many people’s days, and enough people can change a lot of peoples’ lives. You are somebody’s hero. The heroes I’m inspired by are the good people in this world. I believe that anybody can make a change in somebody’s life, simply by changing their day. A hero doesn't need to have a cape, or a supernatural birth. A hero could be short, tall, black, white, arrogant, or even homeless. The only thing a hero truly needs to be, is loving.
ReplyDeleteThe qualities hero’s, per say, have changed over the course of history. In the 4000’s B.C. those characteristics were that of someone that was in power, and they believed that all heroes had to have power. In Europe’s Medieval era the quality was that of chivalry, and knight portrayed this the best. In more modern times the meaning of a hero is anyone that stands up for what they believe in; and actually doing something about their belief. One of my heroes would have to be John Rolfe. He is one of my heroes because he stuck to his beliefs and founded the tobacco industry in the american colonies. He started growing tobacco in 1612. He is possibly the most influential man to have lived in the southern colonies. The American Revolution might not have worked, without Rolfe’s tobacco to back the economy of the south. Overall the qualities of heroes in history have changed significantly; who knows what the next ‘heroic’ quality will be in the world? Will it be humility, kindness, respectful, or something completely different?

The qualities I would look for in and hero are courage, loyalty and forgiveness. My example of a modern hero is God. God is a modern hero to me because he still does things for me on a daily basis. God is my hero because he is courageous. Courage is being able to do something that someone fears. God was able to do several acts courage. One important act was that he died so that I would have life and it freely. To me that shows courage because I would be afraid to give my life for someone else. It took courage to for God to turn over the money tables when the Pharisee people were selling things in the synagogue. Loyalty is also a quality I would look for. Loyalty is being true to someone no matter what. God is always there for me, even when I mess up, he’s still there. He doesn’t give up on us when we do wrong. He never leaves or says that he’s tired. Sometimes we do these things to God. Forgiveness is a trait I would expect from a hero. Forgiveness is the acceptance of one’s fault, void of decision of vengeful. God is forgiving. Say you have a problem with your friends or family. If they come to you, apologize and you don’t forgive them God will not forgive us for our sins.

ReplyDeleteA hero for me doesn’t have to be significant, or different from anyone else. I believe a hero is someone who helps someone else out strictly out of kindness. A hero could be the one kid who talks to the new kid at school who feels very shy because they have ever been to a public school. A hero could be the person who helps a friend out of feeling down or alone. Heros help people in many different ways, such as a doctor saving a patient by removing a dangerous and deadly tumor from their body. A hero could be a random ordinary everyday person helping out by volunteering in a homeless shelter and helping to feed the needy. I believe anyone can be a hero, I think everyone can help somebody out just for the heck of it. We don’t need a dramatic story and the news everywhere to know who the real heros are.
For me, a modern hero is someone who fights for you and protects you. A hero is also strong, courageous, kind, outgoing and is forever sacrificing for other people. He or she also has a strong will and can not be easily broken. When the word hero comes to mind I think of Jesus Christ. Jesus is my hero because he sacrificed his life for the transgressions of this world. Therefore, he died so that we might have a right to the tree of life (heaven). Jesus loved us so much that he died for us, all you have to do is accept him. Even Jesus own people did not accept him for who he was and is. His transgressors persecuted him for claiming to be The Son of God; but that did not stop Jesus from doing what he intended to do. Jesus' life is the perfect example of what a hero is. Even though he was mistreated, criticized, beaten, spit on and hung on a cross; Jesus endured it all because he loved us more than he loved himself. That to me is the greatest sacrifice of all and all we have to do is believe and accept him.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion some qualities a hero would have are Courage, sacrifice, honesty, bravery, will, and determination. An example of a hero in our modern society might be somebody who encourages others to live a better life or be better than they are, for example a parent, a coach, or a teacher who push you to do better things every day. Another example of a hero might be a star player of a team who could push harder even if all the odds are against them to help their team out and save the team, that could leave him or her with a heroic image. A person who would definitely be considered a hero would be somebody who helped save somebodies life at some point in time, whether it be by donating a liver to performing surgery on a patient in danger of losing his or her life, to pushing somebody off the road from an oncoming car to stop them from getting ran over, they would be viewed as a great person who puts others before themselves. Thing that could make these people a hero would be of course showing the characteristics I named earlier. They could show courage by taking chances and being strong, sacrifice by putting others before them in every situation, honesty by always telling the truth, bravery by doing everything possible to help a person even if it seems like they would end up losing, and will and determination by never giving up on what they believe or not giving up on the thing or person they are trying to save. Whatever it is being a hero is a tough job and it's sad to know that there are some out there that give their all and still get disrespected but they keep going. Having said that I come to a conclusion that Hero's are great.
In my opinion, a hero should have determination, dedication, and compassion. A hero should not be afraid to stand up for what they believe in. They should always fight for their beliefs and never give up on it, no matter how difficult a situation might get. They should focus themselves on their beliefs and work hard to get far with them. A hero should also show empathy to the individuals they are trying to help. I believe an example of a modern day hero would be Angelina Jolie. Angelina Jolie has been on field missions around the world to meet with refugees in more than twenty countries because she thought they should be commended for what they have survived. She also went to Haiti to help survivors of their natural disaster. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie established the "Jolie-Pitt Foundation" to help with humanitarian crisis around the world and donated one million dollars to "Doctors Without Borders" and "Global Action for Children" to start their foundation. Angelina has been recognized and named a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador at UNHCRheadquarters in Geneva, was the first to receive the Citizen of the World Award, and has also been recognized for a few other things. More recently though, she has been named Honorary Dame Grand Cross by Queen Elizabeth for her ongoing campaign against rape in war zones. She is a great example of the kind of person we should all become just by doing what she can in supporting worthy causes and charities.
ReplyDeleteI look at at hero as someone that inspires your life. Someone that makes you want to do things better. Someone that i idolize, would be someone like my dad. He works hard on everything he does. Anything he goes through, he keeps his head. He has a really big impact on my life. I know he would do anything in the world fo
ReplyDeleter me . It makes me want to be like him when I grow up. He’s my idol and my hero. I look up to him in every way & he inspires my life every day. He is my hero and will always be my hero. I know a lot of people don’t have a father figure in their life. So i am very lucky to have him. He’s always been in my life and did everything he could to make me happy. Its the same way i want to be in my future life.
A hero to me is a person who is responsible, honest, loyal, and fair. A hero is a person who tries their best to help everyone in need no matter who it is, he helps people change for the better and treats everyone equally. He/She fights for what they want and doesn’t let anyone or anything get in their way. Who puts others before themselves. A hero to me doesn’t have to be a made up character it can be someone who you look up to, someone who you admire, who inspires people to be better. A person who doesn’t care about anyone other than themselves, who is rude and can’t be trusted doesn’t deserve to be called a hero. In order to be a hero you have to show people you are and proof to them that you deserve to be called a HERO because not everyone deserves to be called that.
ReplyDeleteI think the qualities a hero would have in our society would be integrity, fighting for what they believe in, always doing the right thing and being a role model. I think Emma Watson is a good example of a modern hero because she is fighting for what she believes in, equality for women. She has made countless speeches, stating that women deserve the same “rights and opportunities” as men. She has done many other things for the HeforShe campaign, including inviting men to join the campaign, stating that "If we stop defining each other by what we are not and start defining ourselves by who we are we can all be freer and this is what HeForShe is about. It's about freedom. I want men to take up this mantle.”
ReplyDeleteShe has integrity. She is honest about her values and goals. She also does the right thing. She talks about world hunger and has donated to many charities in the past, and still does. All this and more make me think that she is a modern hero.
The hero that I chose for this is Chris Kyle. I chose him because I believe a hero is someone who stood up for himself and for others. When he joined the military he woke up everyday knowing he could get killed, but that didn't stop him. He and everybody else in the military risked there life for us so we could live and enjoy our lives. They didn't know what was going to happen the next day or even if they were ever going home but they still fought to protect us. It takes being really brave to go into the military. And that's why I chose him as my hero.
ReplyDeleteA hero is not only someone who embodies physical strength but mental strength also. It is someone who stands up for a cause and is willing to fight through all kinds of obstacles for the sake of one or many people. There are many heroes out in this world fighting long, dangerous battles who have to be smart enough in desperate situations .Since the Declaration Of Independence was written , America was changed forever . Their would be an ongoing battle forever so that one could continue to keep our unalienable rights that were once taken by the British, So Today in America I believe our soldiers are and will continue to be our modern heroes. They fight day to day battles with other countries , people , terrorist groups in order to keep us safe. They have sacrificed their time , life and family for us. In order to keep us as a country as one unified America that can continue to prosper for the future generations.
ReplyDeleteA hero to me is someone who is a good role model , and is an inspiration to other people. A hero does something not for themselves but to benefit other people. Heroes are the type of people who do good things and do not expect recognition. A hero to me is someone who volunteers just because they enjoy helping people. A hero is also someone who fights to protect the freedom of other people. Heroes can be police officers, fire fighters and members of the armed forces. They all run the chance give their lives to protect people they don’t even know. Heroes like the ones i've named fight to try and make a difference in the world. A hero does not give up even in the face of danger. These types of heroes are courageous even when they go into a bad situation but are always determined to help out the situation as much as possible.
ReplyDeleteA hero in our culture should always stick to what they believe, be brave, never give up just because something is hard or seems impossible, and be honest. An example of a modern hero is Malala Yousafai because she believed that everyone should have the opportunity to have an education, not just men. She was shot in the head by the Taliban on October, 9, 2012 because of her beliefs. They were trying to assassinate her because of all of the attention she was getting and how the world was supporting her and the Taliban did not like that. She lived and still talks about how all women should have the right to an education. She won a Nobel Peace Prize on October, 10, 2014 for her beliefs for womens education. She is only 17 and she has made such an impact for the rights of education for women and thats alot more than what most 17 year olds do.
